UWEPO
Rooted in presence. guided by sound.
UWEPO (Swahili for presence) is your invitation to arrive as you are, pause, and reset.
In a world that demands constant motion, Wanjiru— founder and sound bath facilitator of Uwepo— creates space for you to slow down and just be. Through sound, you move from doing to receiving— releasing stress, softening tension, and discovering the calm that’s within you.
Each Uwepo experience is thoughtfully designed, using sound as a bridge back to your most grounded, regulated, and fully present self.
who this is for
You might be drawn to UWEPO if you:
Enjoy wellness practices like yoga, breathwork, or meditation
Feel stressed, burnt out, or overwhelmed
Are in therapy and seeking something complementary and body-based
Experience insomnia or carry tension in your body
Are navigating a major life transition
Need a break from being “the strong one” who supports others
Want community and shared healing experiences
Feel disconnected from yourself and want to return home to your body
Are managing the demands of caregiving, parenting, or a high-pressure job
Live too much in your head and crave something that doesn’t require talking or processing
Simply feel called to this work
My clients often say they’ve never dropped into relaxation so quickly, or that they finally met stillness in a time when the world feels chaotic. They leave feeling more regulated, more connected to their Self, and with greater capacity for all that life asks of them.
the uwepo experience
Sound baths with Uwepo happen in yoga studios, private homes, outdoors, and other welcoming spaces across Minneapolis and St. Paul. You’ll settle into a comfortable chair or lie on a yoga mat with bolsters and a blanket, and I’ll invite you to find your most restful position. Then, for the next hour, you do nothing but receive.
The sounds will wash over and through you— vibrations that speak directly to your nervous system, bypassing the thinking mind and inviting your body to release what it’s been holding. Clients describe it as an inner massage, a chance to meet stillness, and a healthy way to destress that leaves them with more capacity for life’s demands.
I currently offer group sound baths and can work with small private groups. Community sound baths at Shakti Shaka Yoga will be offered in January 2026.
My approach
I come to this work as a mother, community member, and a public health advocate with nearly 20 years of experience guiding individuals, families, and communities toward sustainable well-being. My background in psychology and community health education taught me to see the body, mind, and collective as one living system.
What makes my approach different is how I bridge evidence-based principles with the art of sound wellness. I weave Polyvagal Theory and trauma-informed care into every session, creating inviting spaces where you experience both the proven effects of nervous system regulation and the individual artistry of sound healing. This means the sound isn’t just beautiful, it’s intentionally designed to help your body shift from survival mode into safety, connection, and presence.
My core value is simple: everyone deserves access to a healing modality that is therapeutic, safe, accessible, and transformational— one that guides you closer to your inner wisdom and helps you care for yourself in healthy, sustainable ways.
